As we kick off October, there’s an autumn vibe to this week’s Matchday Playlist, featuring tunes from Echo and the Bunnymen, Sam Fender, The Wannadies, The Temper Trap, The Cranberries and more.
‘Oh Gena’ – The Rogues
Hailing from Newport, The Rogues are one of Wales’ fastest-rising indie rock bands. Their guitar-driven sound mixes energetic riffs with vulnerable lyrics and stage charisma. 2025 has been a big year for them, with festival appearances including the Isle of Wight Festival, Newport Music Trail, and a headline slot at Summer Sessions in Beechwood Park. Oh Gena is the studio version of the track from their debut EP Live at Rockfield, which reached number three in the Official Charts.
‘Throw a Fist’ – The Northern Line
An American band with strong British music roots, this five-piece blends Britpop, Madchester, ‘baggy’ rhythms, shoegaze and modern alt-rock. Their goal is to capture the spirit of ’90s British indie while keeping it fresh. Live, they get audiences moving and celebrating together. Throw a Fist has drawn comparisons to Oasis, especially from the Standing on the Shoulders of Giants era, with guitar-driven melodies layered over organ textures.
‘Drunk’ – Four Act Riot
Cardiff-based Four Act Riot deliver indie rock with catchy melodies, spirited guitars and engaging vocals. Though new, they’ve already made waves at Welsh venues and festivals, as well as making their London debut. In just over a year together, they’ve performed at Greenman, Immersed, Big Love and more, quickly earning a reputation for energetic, high-octane live shows.
