Taking on the World by Ian Prowse
An English singer-songwriter known for his passionate, politically charged songwriting and anthemic live performances. Born in Liverpool, he first rose to prominence in the late 1980s as the frontman of the indie band Pele, whose emotionally driven sound earned critical acclaim and a devoted following. After Pele disbanded, Prowse went on to form Amsterdam in the late 1990s, further cementing his reputation as a powerful lyricist and dynamic performer. Prowse’s music blends elements of rock, folk, and Britpop, often exploring themes of social justice, working-class identity, love, and resilience. He has earned particular respect for his politically conscious writing, drawing inspiration from artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello. His songs frequently balance rousing, stadium-sized choruses with intimate, reflective storytelling.
Mrs Magnificent by Xempa
A group hailing from Newport/Cwmbran. Xempa pride themselves on blurring genres and blending together the soulful vibes of R’N’B, the grove of Funk, the lyrical flow of Hip-Hop and the raw energy of Rock. This marks an exciting new chapter for their lead singer who might be familiar as The Honest Poet. They describe their music as “celebration of creativity and individuality.” They have made plenty of appearances over the past 12 months or so with performances at Newport Food Festival, Up The Port festival, Countdown to Christmas event and more. Their debut single “Hear as I Stand” has amassed over 20,000 streams on Spotify. Their latest release is available now.
Dirty Tiles by Midnight Motion Picture
An emerging artist from South Wales, bringing a cinematic edge to the region’s thriving independent music scene. Drawing inspiration from the dramatic landscapes and industrial heritage of South Wales, Midnight Motion Picture crafts atmospheric, emotionally charged music that lives up to the project’s evocative name. Dirty Tiles reflects the intensity of desire and emotional closeness, capturing a dreamlike, almost intoxicating sense of being drawn to someone. The track leans into Midnight Motion Picture’s “Pedal Rock” sound, cinematic alt-rock built on atmospheric guitar textures, hypnotic rhythms, and immersive vocals. The track captures the dizzying intensity of desire and attraction, blending cinematic textures with hypnotic repetition. Dreamlike and immersive, Dirty Tiles explores the feeling of being “dazed and tied up by spotlights,” suspended in the glow of intimacy and longing.
