Newport County Strengthens Coaching Team

Coaches

Newport County is pleased to announce a series of updates to our coaching team as we continue to strengthen support for Christian Fuchs and the first-team squad.

Over the past few weeks, former Exile Chris Todd has been working closely with the squad and Christian Fuchs, and we are delighted to confirm that he will continue for the remainder of the season as Assistant First Team Coach.

Chris Todd is a Welsh retired footballer and former defender for Newport County, making over 150 appearances across two spells with the club. He enjoyed successful stints with clubs including Swansea City, Exeter City, Torquay United, Forest Green Rovers, and Eastleigh.

Following his playing career, Todd transitioned into management and coaching, including roles as player-manager at Eastleigh, manager of Gloucester City, first-team coach at Torquay United, and assistant manager at Yeovil Town. He most recently served as Director of Football at Eastleigh before returning to Newport County in his current coaching role.

Rob Thomas

In other updates, Rob Thomas has returned to the club as Head of Goalkeeping, following the departure of Adam Mullany, who previously held the role. Thomas brings a wealth of experience, having served as Head of Goalkeeping last season under Nelson Jardim, and spent 15 years with the FAW Trust as National Goalkeeper Coach Education Coordinator. He has also spent the past two seasons with Haverfordwest County in the JD Cymru Premier, overseeing goalkeeper development and delivering FAW coaching courses from Level 1 to Level 4 (UEFA Goalkeepers A Licence).

Following the departure of former Head of Performance Scott Wickens in December, former player and kitman David Pipe has stepped up to assist with the squad’s physical preparation over the past two months. We are now pleased to announce that Mike Beere has joined as Head of Performance Consultant and will continue to support the development and physical preparation of the first-team squad.

These appointments reinforce Newport County’s commitment to providing the first-team squad with top-level coaching, expertise, and support as we push forward in the season.
