Movie buffs Christian Fuchs and number two Mark Smith will re-live the set of Zulu when their Exiles enter the barbed pit of League Two top dogs Bromley on New Year's Day.
Few would give second-from-bottom County any chance against the rabid Ravens. They are unbeaten in the league at their Hayes Lane lair and have won five consecutive games - firing 12 goals.
The bookmakers see Newport as 6/1 outsiders for a triumph in a town where David Bowie scripted a plethora of classics. There again, the odds were stacked against the B Company, 2nd Battalion 24th Regiment of Foot defending their fort against 1,000-plus Zulu warriors in the Battle of Rorke's Drift, Natal, almost 147 years ago.
Port boss Fuchs could be Lieutenant John Chard of the Royal Engineers. Welshman Smith, Gonville Bromhead of the 24th Foot - as they take the roles of Stanley Baker and Michael Caine in the 1964 epic Zulu.
Over 400 brave Zulus perished in that bloody war, as the out-numbered British valiantly defended their territory - it's that sort of upset Fuchs and master coach Smith seek in Kent as County continue to plot an escape from their section's dungeon.
Laying in wait for County is a goal threat of war-scarred hit-man Michael Cheek who blitzed Crawley on December 29 with a treble-strike. The ex-Braintree man has an astonishing 216 goals in 467 career games and leads the Raven's attack.
Giant defenders Omar Sowunmi and and Deji Elerewe are significant threats from any set piece - as is London-born Congo predator Nicke Kabamba who can rise from the bench.
But Fuchs holds a potent belief Newport County will be a mid-table team come May. On the evidence of a superb and controlled footballing display to down Crewe Alexandra at Rodney Parade last night, who would dare to show truculence to this viewpoint.
Courtney Baker-Richardson and borrowed Leicester City midfielder Sammy Braybrooke fired the rockets in either half to destroy the Alex. However, the bedrock of victory derived from the displays of a triple centre-back set up of skipper James Clarke, Lee Jenkins and Matt Baker, who spiked the visitor's threat.
Former Leicester Premiership winning left-back Fuchs reflected, "As an ex left-back I appreciate the value of a clean sheet. We have kept two over the Christmas fixtures against Barnet and Crewe.
"We have started to eradicate the stupid errors and the boys are now starting to believe in the ability they always had, but perhaps needed to find again.
"I couldn't have been prouder of the them all against Crewe. We worked hard off the ball and were very creative in possession. I didn't feel Crewe offered many concerns, as our concentration levels were constant.
"I am looking forward to the Bromley challenge, it's one to relish. Yes, it will be a test, but I believe in my boys, I know we'll be organised and be asking a few questions. We have no fear of them.
"The question of relegation has been asked, of course. But my aim is to get us up into mid-table, anything is possible if you hold a strong believe and you follow a plan, solid performances will lead to points. I never doubted we'd turn things around."
Braybrooke might have returned to the King Power Stadium, even though Newport's recruitment chiefs have burned the midnight oil in an attempt to retain the former England U-19 captain's services.
Fuchs believes his other aces will now step forward. He said, "We have some excellent players at Newport, anybody who disputes this will be proven wrong.
"Matt Smith, Matt Baker, Liam Shephard and James Clarke are all available for selection again - that is four superb players.
"I was so impressed with Bobby Kamwa against Crewe. He is such an exciting offensive performer, but he is now starting to track back more to help the team. That is what I wanted to see him do. A terrific display from him the other night."
Fuchs will also look to bring in two or three new faces into County during the January window - and will look to bed in the fresh recruits properly in readiness for the away trip to Gillingham on the 17th of next month - that's 13 clear days after a home date against Tranmere Rovers.
He said, "I am having regular dialogue with the chairman [Huw Jenkins] and Chris Finn. We are working hard to get something done."
