As we welcome Tranmere Rovers to Rodney Parade let’s look back at some former Newport County and Tranmere players.
Kevin Ellison
Kevin Ellison who has made over 1000 appearances during his lengthy career has played for a variety of clubs including County and Tranmere.
Ellison first joined Tranmere in the summer of 2006 from Hull but only had a year tenure at the club. During his season at the club, he made 37 appearances and scored four goals for the League One club at the time.
After 13 years Ellison joined The Exiles after spending nine seasons at Morecambe. Whilst at the Welsh club, he played in 45 games with one of these games being the League Two play-off final where Newport would ultimately fall short to Ellison’s former club Morecambe.
Kyle Jameson
Kyle Jameson first played for Tranmere in the 2022/23 after he joined the side from Oldham Athletic. Jameson only featured 14 times that season where he started in 13 out of the 14 games.
Following that season Jameson made the switch to Newport where he stayed for the next two seasons. Jameson managed to get a goal during his time at the club during a 2-0 win against Wimbledon.
John Aldridge
John Aldridge who to most is known for his time at Liverpool started his career at The Exiles where he was a part of the squad that played in the 1980/81 UEFA Cup Winners Cup as well as featuring in FA Cup matches against Everton in which he scored in.
The FA Cup winner also played at Tranmere where he resided for many years as he scored 174 goals for the club as well as also winning player of the year for The Rovers.
