Moses Alexander-Walker marked another step in his Newport County journey by scoring his first senior goal in last night’s 1-0 pre-season friendly win at Weston-super-Mare.
The 17-year-old forward came off the bench to net the only goal of the game late on, showing calmness under pressure to convert from close range.
“It’s a really good feeling to get my first goal,” said Alexander-Walker. “Hopefully it’s the first of many. I just want to keep building, keep working hard, and hopefully more goals will come.
“I’m just happy to be out there getting minutes,” he added. “The gaffer and the staff have trusted me to play, and I’m grateful for that. I just want to make the most of every chance I get.”
The goal, a clinical finish following good work on the wing from Michael Reindorf, earned praise from assistant manager Wayne Hatswell, who said: “It was a great goal, especially coming so late in the game.
“Michael (Reindorf) did well initially after switching wings and once he gets going, he's quick, strong and picked the pass. And fair play to Moses it was a really good finish from the youngster.’’
Alexander-Walker, who made his first-team debut at Tranmere in April, has continued to catch the eye in pre-season, impressing with his strength, energy, and attitude.
“I want to use pre-season to show what I can do,” he added. “Nights like this help my confidence. I know I’ve got to keep working, but hopefully I can push on and get more goals this season.”
