Bobby Kamwa Inspires Pupils During County in the Community Anti-Racism Workshop

Bobby Kamwa

This week, Bobby Kamwa joined County in the Community to deliver an inspiring anti-racism workshop for Year 5 and 6 pupils at Maindee Primary School, highlighting the importance of standing up against discrimination in football and everyday life.

The session formed part of the #TogetherAgainstRacism campaign and used #NoRoomForRacism resources provided by the Premier League Charitable Fund. Pupils took part in discussions and activities designed to help them understand how to recognise, challenge and report racism, both on and off the pitch.

Kamwa spoke powerfully about his own experiences of racism while playing Sunday league football as a child, sharing how those moments shaped his character and determination to stand against discrimination. His honesty and courage inspired pupils to reflect on how they can make a difference in their own communities.

After hearing Bobby’s story, pupils discussed ways they could safely report racism if they ever witnessed it and took part in a team-building exercise to demonstrate how teamwork, respect and understanding can unite people from different backgrounds, races and religions.

Speaking about the visit, Club Ambassador Mark O’Brien said: “It’s fantastic to see the work County in the Community are doing in local schools to promote equality and inclusion. Bobby’s story was powerful and will have made a lasting impression on the pupils. It’s vital that we continue using football as a platform to educate and bring people together.”

County in the Community will continue to deliver similar workshops in schools across Newport, reinforcing the message that there is no room for racism on or off the pitch.
