HAYDEN MULLINS | “THE BOYS DESERVE MASSIVE CREDIT”

Hayden Mullins interview

Hayden Mullins reflects on his team’s performance following Newport County’s dominant 3-0 victory against Rochdale AFC.

“A couple more goals would have been nice. I think, you know, the way we set up and the way we wanted to try and approach today.

“I think the boys deserve massive credit because they went about their jobs really well today.”

The manager was also very happy about the reception from the fans today and believes that the team have more to show for them.

“Noise was fantastic, but I think we know the players know that we've got more than something to shout about.

“On the pitch, we've got to be more aggressive in what we're doing out of possession and, you know, we set about trying to get the ball back pretty quickly.”

“We just felt like they were growing into it, so we needed to put some more pressure on their back line. We knew if we applied pressure in the right areas, we'd get the ball back.

“But, yeah, the noise in here was brilliant.”

Mullins also praised the players for how well they have worked alongside the manager since he joined last month.

“I think they've been really responsive since I've come in and we've worked a little bit differently out of possession and the boys have grasped it really well.

“They’re some really good players in that dressing room who understand the ethics and the hard work side of it, and they're applying it as well as they can.

"Even our creative players, you know, in the wide areas, Shaq, Yahya, and even Doidge up front, they're putting a real good shift in.”

Next Saturday, County will take the short trip over the Severn Bridge to face Bristol Rovers in which Mullins is excited for the challenge.

“Next week will be a really good week again leading into Bristol and the Derby, just across the river.

“It will be a fantastic game, great atmosphere, and it's set up for us to go there, and really attack the game.”
