Kion Etete joins Newport County on season-long loan

Etete

Newport County is delighted to announce the signing of striker Kion Etete on a season-long loan from Cardiff City.

The twenty-four-year-old joins County with experience of the Championship, League One and Scottish Premiership, having previously spent time on loan with Rotherham United, Bolton Wanderers and St Mirren.

Etete began his career with Notts County before joining Tottenham Hotspur, where he progressed through the academy and gained first-team experience on loan with Northampton Town and Cheltenham Town. He joined Cardiff City in 2022 and has since made more than 60 appearances for the Bluebirds across all competitions.

Standing at 6ft 6in, the forward provides Hayden Mullins with another option in attack as County continue their 2026-27 League Two campaign.

Etete spent the second half of last season in the Scottish Premiership with St Mirren, having joined the club on loan in January 2026 after his initial season-long spell with Rotherham United was ended early.

Welcome to County, Kion!
