Newport County suffered a late defeat at Sixfields Stadium as they were beaten 1-0 by Northampton Town.
A volley from Joe O'Brien Whitmarsh in the 87th minute found the bottom right corner and gave Northampton their first win of the season.
Newport County sit in 20th but are just five points away from a playoff position.
Tanatswa Nyakuhwa, Michael Adu-Poku and Matty Jacob all made their debuts at Sixfields Stadium with Matt Dibley-Dias also making his first start for the Exiles.
The first five minutes of the game saw both teams passing the ball well in midfield but neither side could find the goal.
However, Northampton pushed through as they piled onto County's defence but were unable to get past Jordan Wright.
Promise started to show for County as Dibley-Dias penalised the Northampton midfield, winning the ball and striding towards goal, but his cross was unable to find Shaquille Gwengwe.
After some missed chances from both sides, Nathaniel Opoku sprinted towards goal halfway through the first half as he attempted to find Connor Evans, but his touch was too heavy as Newport regained possession.
The Cobblers continued to pursue as O'Brien Whitmarsh shot from distance as he tried to find the bottom left corner, but his shot was dragged wide.
With five minutes to go in the half, Harrison Biggins attempted to find an amber shirt inside the box with his set-piece delivery, but the ball fell straight into Zach Jeacock's hands.
Going into the break, neither side could break the deadlock, despite chances for both sides.
Newport started the second half on top as a positive attack saw Yahya Bamba almost find his man in the box, but the ball was cleared away, with Ciaran Brennan's follow-up shot being hit off target.
Just minutes later, Bamba almost grabbed another chance as a neatly played cross from Biggins fell to the winger, but he was unable to get a touch on the ball.
Logan Briggs got his first chance of the game less than five minutes after coming onto the pitch as his effort from the left side of the pitch was aimed towards goal, but a deflection off Cameron Norman ended any danger.
With 15 minutes to go, Northampton still threatened as Opoku was found six yards away from goal with his headed attempt falling to Wright.
Michael Adu-Poku instantly made an impact as he drove down the right-hand side of the pitch before his cross was blocked as Northampton conceded a throw-in.
However, with less than five minutes remaining of normal time, O'Brien Whitmarsh hit the ball on the volley and found the right-hand side of goal to put the Cobblers in the lead.
Northampton tried to double their lead late on as Matty Warhurst found himself with space in the box, but a save from Wright denied another goal.
