Remembrance to be marked at Newport’s fixture against Walsall

Rememberance

Newport County’s Sky Bet League Two match at home to Walsall on Saturday afternoon will be the club’s dedicated Remembrance fixture.

The Exiles will face The Saddlers at Rodney Parade (3:00pm kick-off) in what is the club’s closest home fixture to Remembrance Sunday, which falls on November 9. This will be followed by Remembrance Day on Tuesday, November 11.

Ahead of kick-off, wreaths will be laid on the pitch by representatives from both clubs, and those in attendance will be asked to observe the playing of the Last Post before a period of silence.

Supporters are encouraged to take their seats early, for 2:45pm, in order to pay their respects before the match begins. Supporters who prefer not to take part in the pre-match tribute are asked to remain in the concourse until kick-off.

To mark the occasion, Newport County’s players and coaching staff will wear poppy armbands for the fixture. The Newport Veterans will also resume their usual position in the Marquee prior to kick-off, and Rodney Parade will feature poppy corner flags and a remembrance banner in tribute to all who served.

We Will Remember Them.

Colin Addison Tribute

We would like to make fans aware that the club will play tribute to club legend Colin Addison with a moment’s silence and black armbands in our Vertu Trophy match against Exeter City. While the FA Cup fixture against Gillingham would have been a fitting occasion to honour Colin, the timeframe for approval did not allow this to take place. Had the match been part of an EFL competition, we are confident that approval could have been secured in such a short timeframe for both a moment’s silence and the wearing of black armbands, as we work closely with the EFL on a weekly basis. The FA Cup, however, operates under separate regulations and is run independently from the EFL.

As this Saturday’s match is marked as our Remembrance fixture, we have begun the approval process to ensure Colin receives a fitting tribute at our next home match on Tuesday. We thank supporters for their understanding and extend our appreciation to those who have assisted in clarifying the approval processes to fans over recent days.
