EXILES ON THE ROAD

Newport County head to Kent this weekend as the Exiles travel to Priestfield Stadium to take on Gillingham, take a look at our Exiles on the Road brought to you by The Tumeric Co.

The Stadium

Priestfield Stadium has been the home of Gillingham Football Club since 1893, making it one of the oldest continually used football grounds in England. Located in the heart of the Medway area, the stadium has undergone several redevelopments over the years, including the addition of the Medway Stand in the late 1990s and the Brian Moore Stand.

With a current capacity of around 11,000, Priestfield remains a traditional English football ground and a key part of Gillingham’s identity.

Getting There

By Train

Priestfield Stadium is approximately a ten-minute walk from Gillingham Railway Station.

Gillingham is well served by trains from:

  • London Victoria (every 15 minutes)
  • Charing Cross (every 30 minutes)
  • St Pancras International and Stratford International (every 30 minutes)

The quickest routes are from Stratford International (approx. 37 minutes) and St Pancras International (approx. 45 minutes).

Walking from the station:
Turn left when exiting the station and follow the road to a crossroads. Go straight ahead into Priestfield Road. The away turnstiles are located at the far end of this road. Allow around ten minutes to reach the stadium.

Supporters arriving by official coach will be escorted by police to a designated coach park, located around a ten-minute walk from the ground.

By Car

From the M2, leave at Junction 4 and follow the A278 towards Gillingham, continuing straight over two roundabouts. At the third roundabout, turn left onto the A2 towards Gillingham town centre. At the traffic lights with the A231, turn right into Nelson Road, then right again into Gillingham Road, with the stadium located on the right.

An alternative route is via the A289, continuing through the Medway Tunnel and following signs for Priestfield Stadium.

Car Parking

There is a residents-only parking scheme in operation around the stadium, so supporters are advised to plan ahead.

Recommended options include:

  • Railway Street car park near Gillingham Station (£2.50 for four hours, under 10 minutes’ walk)
  • Our Lady of Gillingham Church, Ingram Road, ME7 1YL (typically £3, subject to availability)
  • Private driveway rentals via YourParkingSpace.co.uk

Matchday Programme

Gillingham will be producing an official 48-page matchday programme for the 2025/26 season, priced at £3, following positive feedback from supporters after an initial proposal to discontinue the programme.

Pubs & Refreshments

There are several away-friendly pubs near Priestfield Stadium. Please note that some venues may require club colours to be covered and some may not permit children.

We look forward to seeing the Amber Army in full voice at Priestfield Stadium as the Exiles continue their Sky Bet League Two campaign.

Safe travels and Up the County.
